Stationary Stability for Evolutionary Dynamics in Finite Populations

چکیده
We demonstrate a vast expansion of the theory of evolutionary stability to finite populations with mutation, connecting the theory of the stationary distribution of the Moran process with the Lyapunov theory of evolutionary stability. We define the notion of stationary stability for the Moran process with mutation and generalizations, as well as a generalized notion of evolutionary stability that includes mutation called an incentive stable state (ISS) candidate. For sufficiently large populations, extrema of the stationary distribution are ISS candidates and we give a family of Lyapunov quantities that are locally minimized at the stationary extrema and at ISS candidates. In various examples, including for the Moran and Wright-Fisher processes, we show that the local maxima of the stationary distribution capture the traditionally-defined evolutionarily stable states. The classical stability theory of the replicator dynamic is recovered in the large population limit. Finally we include descriptions of possible extensions to populations of variable size and populations evolving on graphs. corresponding author, email: [email protected] AMS keywords: 91A22, 92D25, 37B25 1 ar X iv :1 31 1. 09 41 v3 [ m at h. Evolutionary and convergence stability for continuous phenotypes in finite populations derived from two-allele models.
The evolution of a quantitative phenotype is often envisioned as a trait substitution sequence where mutant alleles repeatedly replace resident ones. In infinite populations, the invasion fitness of a mutant in this two-allele representation of the evolutionary process is used to characterize features about long-term phenotypic evolution, such as singular points, convergence stability (establis...
متن کاملA new approach on studying the stability of evolutionary game dynamics for financial systems
Financial market modeling and prediction is a difficult problem and drastic changes of the price causes nonlinear dynamic that makes the price prediction one of the most challenging tasks for economists. Since markets always have been interesting for traders, many traders with various beliefs are highly active in a market. The competition among two agents of traders, namely trend follo...
متن کاملStochastic Evolutionary Game Dynamics: Foundations, Deterministic Approximation, and Equilibrium Selection
We present a general model of stochastic evolution in games played by large populations of anonymous agents. Agents receive opportunities to revise their strategies by way of independent Poisson processes. A revision protocol describes how the probabilities with which an agent chooses each of his strategies depend on his current payoff opportunities and the current behavior of the population. O...
متن کاملComplex Coevolutionary Dynamics - Structural Stability and Finite Population Effects
Unlike evolutionary dynamics, co-evolutionary dynamics can exhibit a wide variety of complex regimes. This has been confirmed by numerical studies e.g. in the context of Evolutionary Game Theory (EGT) and population dynamics of simple two-strategy games with various types of replication and selection mechanisms. Using the framework of shadowing lemma we study to what degree can such infinite po...
متن کاملFixation in finite populations evolving in fluctuating environments
The environment in which a population evolves can have a crucial impact on selection. We study evolutionary dynamics in finite populations of fixed size in a changing environment. The population dynamics are driven by birth and death events. The rates of these events may vary in time depending on the state of the environment, which follows an independent Markov process. We develop a general the...
